Success Stories from some of our young entrepreneurs

“When I first came to the mentoring program, in 2003 I was 14 years old. I was raised by my mother in a single parent household, and during the time I was very rebellious. There were no positive influences in my life. Therefore, I was in dire need of a strong male figure in my life. My mother and I were introduced to the mentoring group by Minister Kevin Smith. I was behind in school and on the verge of dropping out. However, participating in the mentoring program provided me strong male role models in my life, as well as the outlet to think constructively about my life. Through the program’s commitment to offer guidance and passion to see young males prosper in every area of life; I blossomed from a teenager going down the wrong path to a determined college student.

I was offered scholarships from Emory University and Morehouse College. I decided to attend Georgia Perimeter College where I made the Dean’s List and transferred to Georgia State University.

I received a BS in accounting with honors December 2009. I was the first recipient of the Restoration Community Resources Scholarship. Through the efforts of this wonderful organization my life and my mother’s life will never be the same. I have become a mentor and realize my potential and responsibilities to give back to the community. Thank You Restoration Community Resources!” – Brandon McClendon

“Public Speaking: The series of public speaking classes provided by Restoration Community Resources Entrepreneurial Mentoring Group were dynamic. Public speaking is a relevant and necessary tool for people of all ages and walks of life. My son and I will benefit from the skills for many years to come. Thank You!

Entrepreneurship: I’ve watched my son consistently grow in his craft as an artist from a very young age. Last summer, he had an opportunity to participate with a team to create a business plan for a board game. He enjoyed using his creative gifts to design the board and the figurines to be used as pawns in the game. He devoted several hours of his time creating the concept. Many times he started over again until he was satisfied that the result would represent his team proudly.” – Twana Martin
